…You Won't Be Coming Home!
Welcome to Camp Arawak, where teenage boys and girls learn to experience the joys of nature, as well as each other. But when these happy campers begin to die in a series of horrible 'accidents', they discover that someone - or something - has turned their summer of fun into a vacation to dismember. Has a dark secret returned from the camp's past...or will an unspeakable horror end the season forever?
From its grisly special effects to the truly shocking climax, Sleepaway Camp is no ordinary 'body count' movie. See for yourself why this killer thriller spawned two sequels and became one of the most surprising horror hits of the '80s!

Back to camp! - 3.5 out of 5 (8/15/2000)
Goin back to camp!
"Sleepaway Camp" has been referred to as a cheaper made version of "Friday the 13th." As if there could actually be such a thing!
It is true that the film was made immediately after the success of the second "Friday" movie, but this should in no way constitute a rip-off film. Just because they have in common camps, childhood crimes, family revenge, lousy acting, decent gore f/x and fledgling stars in the making does not make it a clone. Okay, enough of this! It was a

Good Slasher Film - 3.5 out of 5 (12/31/2003)
Don't get me wrong... There is better out there, but when it comes to 80's slashers this is one of the best. Right away you might think it's a Friday The 13 knock-off but just the setting is... The plot, characters and killer are nothing alike to it. And yes the ending is quite shocking if you unfamilar with it still.

Shocking film....but warning dvd is cut! - 4.5 out of 5 (6/7/2002)
This is a pretty bizzare and disturbing film. On it surface it may appear to be your usual run of the mill 80's slasher borefest. Beleive me,things are not what they seem!
The first time i rented the film...i turned it off about 30mn into it and just fast forwarded through the rest since i thought it was boring & so predictable at i didn't want to waste my time veiwing the whole thing.
Boy was i wrong!...so months later gave the film another chance and watched the whole thing & wow this

Great Film! - 2.75 out of 5 (9/16/2001)
I love this movie! Its typical early 80's horror! This series has some of the most innovative ways of killing people I have ever seen. Why dont they make more deaths like these? Bee stings, Decapitation, curling iron? Its got it all!
Its basically just been copied over from the VHS version cause there isn't any outstanding sound or video remastering done here, but it does have a Directors Commentary which surprised me alot! Its not a bad commentary either, compared to some I've seen.
