In a small woodsy Oregon town, a group of friends -- sensitive Gordie (Wil Wheaton), tough-guy Chris (River Phoenix), flamboyant Teddy (Corey Feldman), and scaredy-cat Vern (Jerry O'Connell) -- are in search of a missing teenager's body. Wanting to be heroes in each others' and their hometown's eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tall tales, cuss 'cause it's cool, and band together when the going gets tough. When they encounter the town's knife-wielding hoods who are also after the body, the boys discover a strength they never knew they had. Stand By Me is a rare and special film about friendship and the indelible experiences of growing up. Filled with humor and suspense, it is based on the novella The Body by Stephen King.

STAND BY ME - 4.5 out of 5 (6/18/2001)
STAND BY ME is without a doubt the one film that can never leave one wondering what they watched. This is an incredible and fascinating film about four teenage boys coming of age and getting together in the summer to search out for a missing teen's dead corpse. Based on the novella "THE BODY," written by the most sinister author himself, Stephen King.
The story is told by Gordie's adult version, (Richard Dreyfuss - Jaws,) reflecting on his younger days with his best buds and his tender mem

One of the best movies ever - 5 out of 5 (6/7/2004)
If you love movies, you'll love Stand By Me. It's one of those movies that properly reminds you of childhood and growing up. The acting is amazing, especially by the late River Phoenix. It's a credit to Rob Reiner to have pulled off such a movie. I was born in '83, but anyone from any generation can relate to this movie. The featurette, Walking the Tracks has interviews from Stephen King and all key cast except River Phoenix. Rob Reiner says it's the best movie he ever made, and i say go buy it.

An incredible journey of growing up - 5 out of 5 (7/19/2002)
Stand By Me has always been one of my all-time favorite movies. The chemistry between the four boys out to find the body of a kid their age has always been an inspiration for me growing up.
Rob Reiner's direction is tops. How he managed to get those four boys to act their hearts out is still a mystery today. The best comes out of River Phoenix as the troubled leader of the pack, and Jerry O' Connell's part as the way-too-innocent scaredy cat Vern, Corey Feldman's turn as the crazy Teddy, and
