From writer/director P.T. Anderson comes the turbulent behind the scenes story of an extended family of filmmakers who set out to revolutionize the adult entertainment industry in the seventies.
Idealistic producer Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds) has always dreamed of elevating his films into an art form. When he discovers young actor Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg), Jack begins to turn his dreams into reality. Under the stage name of Dirk Diggler, Eddie soon gives the adult entertainment world a star the likes of which it has never seen. But the rise to fame has its costs, and soon Dirk finds himself sliding down the slippery slope of sex, drugs and violence. The only question: can he get himself back together before it's too late?

Not so much a look at the porn industry as it is a look at the lives affected by it - 5 out of 5 (12/22/2001)
One of the primary functions of film is to permit the audience live in a vicarious manner a life they winder about but would never dare to live. Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights takes the viewer into the strange world of film pornographers. While not a particularly uplifting topic it does show how lives are affected and ruined by this billion-dollar industry. The center of the story is 17-year-old Eddie (Mark Wahlberg) who washes dishes in a nightclub for a living for a living. One night Edd

Boogie Nights......... - 4.25 out of 5 (8/31/2004)
I first watch Magnolia and thought it was a great film and I started to watch some of PTA's other films and Boogie Nights is a film that really got my attention. I rented the DVD and I'm planning on buying it cus it belongs in my DVD collection. My favorite scene is the part where the song "sister christian" is on by NIght Ranger and Alfred Molina singing it, great musical moment. Overall I love this movie. The ending............well I think the girls would like that scene.5 outta 5 for this one

Great, when is the 3rd version of the DVD coming out? - 4.5 out of 5 (9/21/2000)
I don't need to tell you that Boogie Nights was one of the best films of the late 90's. If you came here, considering purchasing it, then you know already.
Here, New Line attempts to fuse the extras of original DVD and Criterion laserdisc to make the ultimate collector's edition of Boogie Nights, and they sort of failed.
I guess since I was already familiar with the extras from both I was sort of letdown here. The only new stuff on the disc, not found anywhere else, is only the additional
