"The Hurricane ridesito glory onian astonishing performance byiDenzel Washington!" -The New York Times
Academy Award®-winner Denzel Washington plays Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a man who, in the prime of his boxing career finds himself wrongfully convicted of murder. Sentenced to life in prison, Carter's published memoir, The Sixteenth Round, inspired a teenager (Vicellous Reon Shannon) from Brooklyn and three Canadian activists (Deborah Kara Unger, John Hannah, L. Schreiber) who believed in the truth, to join forces with Carter to prove his innocence. Their extraordinary efforts ultimately secure this release, leaving Hurricane to sum up his 20 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit by simply stating, "Hate got me into this place, love got me out." Don't miss the movie Rolling Stone called, "A stirring fight for freedom! Denzel Washington at his powerful, poignant best!"

Here comes the story of the Hurricane... - 4 out of 5 (7/31/2000)
Despite the fact that some of this movie plays fast and loose with actual facts (some of the boxing did not happen the way it was portrayed, and there never was a single police officer out to get Hurricane Carter), this is still a really good movie, with a tremendous performance by Denzel Washington as Rubin Carter. Somebody please tell me how he lost the Oscar to Kevin Spacey?!
A note to film buffs...look for the picture of Malcolm X in Hurricane's cell in the second half of the movie. Not

Another tear jerker on the level of The Green Mile. - 5 out of 5 (7/16/2000)
This movie is a tear jerker on the level of The Green Mile. Denzel Washington's acting is so great that I actually believed he was Rueben "Hurricane" Carter. While the surround channels on 5.1 are not that busy, it has the proper ambience for this type of film. When the justice system sends a person to prison for a long time, no stone should be left unturned. Furhter, no law enforcement officer should be given automatic credibility because they have a badge. Some are no different than the hoodlu

An inspiring Film - 4.75 out of 5 (7/15/2000)
This Film is one of those great moments in film making that is inspiring, It does not let the viewer get bored and makes sure that the viewer becomes part of the film. When watching though dont watch the Spotlight on Location first as it gives the ending away, Yeah I know we all know what happens but it does ditract from the film
