good film - 4 out of 5 (9/8/2003)
In the mood for something different, I decided to check out The Ninth Gate. Beyond the interesting DVD cover, the synopsis was enough to draw me in.
Dean Corso is a man of few friends and fewer morals. He is not above backstabbing and cheating to get what he wants. He has become a common name among dealers of old books. An expert himself, Corso knows much about his wares. He gets rare books for his clients, going through his friend Bernie, who owns a bookstore.
He is called by Boris Balka

Most suprising flick I've seen - 5 out of 5 (1/11/2005)
Not in terms of plot but of how good the flick was. I heard a lot of bad press on the film and avoided seeing it. Then recently I've really gotten into the cinema of Roman Polanski. Fearless Vampire Killers being the only other film of his I have seen. Now the film is a excellent feature with a great cast and even better directing. The DVD is top-notch, and the sound and extras all are great! Recommended for fans of flicks like Eyes Wide Shut, Chinatown and such.

I really did like this movie. But, I fully admit this movie is probably not for the Bubbas who like action and gore and a simple story. This movie is only for the Elite with IQs in the upper range. That is why I only give it an average score because the appeal to a mass audiance is limited and I do not want to mislead the common Peasants. So, in conclusion, for the discriminating mystery and suspense buff. I recommend this movie highly. Although, I do wish the movie came in a formatted for

hey where is the climax? - 3.25 out of 5 (10/12/2000)
Throughout the film I waited something to happen. I watched the movie as a horror film I hoped to be scared; but no way! It isn't scary at all!!
