A Grand thriller! - 3.75 out of 5 (7/17/2000)
"Deep Red" has long been considered to be the best work of Director Dario Argento. This is quite a claim for the man who also helmed one of the best murder thrillers of all time, namely "Suspiria" (Which is also coming out later in the year from Anchor Bay in a deluxe edition!)

from Fringe Video Fanzine Issue #001 - 3 out of 5 (5/13/2002)
Part of the "animal trilogy" [The Bird With the Crystal Plumage (1969), Cat O' Nine Tails (1971) and Four Flies on Grey Velvet], this film marks the beginning of the evolutionary trademark style that horror fans have come to love. Terrific giallo film - 3.75 out of 5 (5/16/2001)
This is the most complete version of the film around. As a result, it's a little odd, because some parts are dubbed, and other parts (those that were cut from the original English-language release) are subtitled. Still a terrific crime drama, with sufficient gore for horror-hounds and beautiful cinematography for more conventional film buffs.

Despite the obvious Poe theft, one of Argento's best. - 3.25 out of 5 (7/16/2000)
Though Dario follows a strict formula in his plot direction and building of suspense, Profondo Rosso never gets tiresome like Suspira and Inferno. Along with Tenebre and Opera, this remains one of his brightest shining moments.
