Synopsis
Satoshi Kon's Animated Psychological Thriller

Pop singer Mima Kirigow looks forward to a bright new career when she quits her chart-topping trio to become an actress. When she lands a role in a sexually charged murder mystery, Mima's life begins to fall apart. Reality and hallucinations merge into a terrifying netherworld where innocence is lost and dreams become nightmares

Quickly descending into a dangerous state of paranoid delusions, Mima discovers Internet sites describing every intimate detail of her life. Helpless and afraid, she watches as her associates are threatened and killed by a mysterious stalker.

In the tradition of great suspense masters, director Satoshi Kon (Memories), special advisor Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira) and Madhouse Studios (Ninja Scroll), bring Yoshikazu Takeuchi's thrilling suspense novel to the screen, in a tour de force that brings animation to a bold new level.

Scary, horrifying, and unsettling, but engrossing throughout. - 4.25 out of 5  (4/1/2005)
Japanese Anime is interesting in that while there are commercially driven movies and series made simply to sell toys and merchandise, amid the glut of such mainstream productions exist more daring, ambitious experiments which can nonetheless be considered great works of art. Satoshi Kon's directorial debut, PERFECT BLUE, is one such Anime. It is very rare to see an adult-driven, psychologically frightening suspense-drama that we would mostly get from directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, and the c   more >>

Not exactly what it's hyped up to be... - 2.25 out of 5  (3/15/2004)
Okay, I'm not saying that this is a horrible film and the animation was absolutely stunning (I just didn't give it a better rating because I don't believe that any anime can be rated solely on pure eye candy factor). With that said, I have to say that although the storyline looked promising, the movie didn't actually deliver the suspense and thrill it claimed. Not to say that the movie was painful to watch to any degree, but this was the first anime I had ever purchased - I was extremely i   more >>

Film - 4.75 out of 5  (2/27/2002)
I liked the mysterious twists and thoughts of this film which made it very exciting to watch. The music was great and the story was fantastic. It will make no sense at first, but during your 2nd and 3rd time thru it will make sense completely. This is one of my favorite anime thrillers.   more >>
