"One Of The Best Films Of The Year!" -Paul Tatara, CNN.COM
Two time Oscar-nominee Winona Ryder stars in the fascinating true story of a young woman's life-altering stay at a famous psychiatric hospital in the turbulent late 1960s.
Questionably diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Susanna (Winona Ryder) rebels against head nurse (Whoopi Goldberg) and top psychiatrist (Vanessa Redgrave), choosing instead to befriend the resident "loonies" -- a group of troubled women including the seductively charismatic sociopath Lisa (Angelina Jolie).
But Susanna quickly learns that if she wants her freedom, she'll have to face the person who terrifies her most of all: herself.

The chief difference is that while "Cuckoo's Nest" was something of a downer movie, this film is an uplifting tale of survival.
Susanna Kaysen wrote her memoir of a two-year stay at a psychiatric hospital in 1993, some fifteen years after it actually occurred. Th

It's Angelina. Don't interrupt me! - 4.25 out of 5 (11/11/2002)
Doe-eyed Winona Ryder (recently convicted of shoplifting in Los Angeles) stars as a wayward young woman, Susanna, who has her life "interrupted" for a year as she commits herself to a women-only mental institution near her comfortable home in Boston. She lacks the ambition of her Ivy League-bound friends, and resents the existence of her socialite mother. She beds one of her father's younger associates; while another, much older (as a favor to her father), convinces her to have herself admitte

Excellent Story - 5 out of 5 (8/23/2002)
Being diagnoised with BPD myself this movie gave insight into the day to day dealings with this illness. I think it is an excellent movie that brought to light the dealings with BPD and what people go through.

what a dull movie - 2.75 out of 5 (10/27/2000)
I thought the acting all in all was good but did we really care for the characters? I didn't really care if they made it or not. I know that sounds odd but I guess that is because the movie just didn't move me... or should I say the writing was not moving.
