When a would-be psychologist, curiously named Dr. Mumford (Loren Dean, Enemy Of The State) comes to the idyllic town of the same name, and offers his talent for listening and a disarming frankness, the town's quirkiest citizens scramble for a seat on his couch. As he lightens hearts darkened by old secrets -- including those of the beautiful and troubled Sofie Crisp (Hope Davis, Arlington Road) -- no one realizes he's hiding a whopper of his own, or that he's fallen head over heels for one of his patients!
Filled with personality disorders, surprises, offbeat alliances and some hilarious fantasies, Mumford is just what the laugh doctor ordered.

A pleasantly funny movie! - 3.5 out of 5 (4/25/2000)
Lawrence Kasdan made a quiet return to filmmaking with the release of the critical smash "Mumford." It's a shame that the movie didn't quite catch on with audiences in the same manner. The movie is pleasantly charming and a decent way to spend a couple of hours.

Not a real Doctor?? That's right, the fake kind........ - 4.25 out of 5 (4/25/2000)
Mumford can easily be summed up as a breath of fresh air. It's one of the more pleasant, feel-good films I've seen in a while and it has a lot of wit as well. I had such a wonderful time watching every single character come to life. It's the latest film to come from master writer/director Lawrence Kasdan, who knows how to write and create stories concerning contemporary adult life.
