"Chasing Amy" was that self-confessed special film for director Kevin Smith. His first film, "Clerks" went on to much-deserved high praise and his second, "Mallrats" went on to much undeserved bashing.
"Chasing Amy" was his final story in the New Jersey trilogy. It is a special story in which all of the characters grow up to become the best adults that they can be.

Still Smith's landmark achievement - 4.5 out of 5 (12/12/2002)
It's hard to believe that I have loved this movie for five years already. It's a shame it was only out in theaters for a week (I still saw it three times). It is a perfect mixture of humor and purity. This film is full of brilliant performances. It showcases all of why Affleck is a star and why Jason Lee should be a star. Even with all the great acting, Smith steals the show with his wonderful script. Damn, this is wonderful!

Touching Installment of the New Jersey Trilogy.......... - 5 out of 5 (6/26/2000)
Before Chasing Amy, director Kevin Smith had made only two previous films, Clerks and Mallrats, which were for the most part screwball comedies. With "Amy", the third installent of the New Jersey trilogy, Smith displayed elements of sharp humor, but this time mixed in with some truly touching moments of a complicated romance from two people from different worlds. It added up to what was one of the best films of 1997.
