"A small gem! A banquet of fast food andifunny talk." - Richard Corliss, TIME
Fries with gravy, a cherry cola. Friendship, bragging rights...and does Sinatra or Mathis croon the best makeout music? Before there was the counterculture of the '60s, there was the counter culture.
From his Oscar-nominated script, Barry Levinson makes his directing debut with this endearing study of pals in transition. Film-debuting Ellen Barkin plays a neglected wife. Steve Guttenberg, Daniel Stern, Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Timothy Daly and Paul Reiser -- chosen from over 600 hopefuls -- play the up-all-night buddies who work out the remnants of adolescence during ritual grazings at a busy steel-and-vinyl hangout in 1959 Baltimore. Stars, laughs, interlocking stories: entertainment is the daily special in Diner.

Going home again! - 3.5 out of 5 (4/14/2000)
Watching "Diner" again is like going back to your favorite high school hangout.
The movie was a classic in its time and Warner Brothers has decided to release it on DVD for it's 20th anniversary.
"Diner" tells the story of six life long friends: Bogie, Shrevie, Fenwick, Eddie, Modell and Billy. Most of them have grown up and moved on but they cannot resist coming back to the diner for one last time.
The occasion is Eddie's wedding. That is if his fiancé can pass the football

When They Were Young - 2.5 out of 5 (1/31/2001)
Nice to see this film for the first time on DVD. Too bad the features and sound were poor. There aren't too many films like this that had so many actors who would go on to do bigger success. "The Outsiders" is another good example of something similar happening. We have Mickey Rourke (The Pledge), Daniel Stern (City Slickers), Ellen Barkin (Sea Of Love) et al in their movie-stardom infancy here.
The only good Feature was the opening introduction by the Director Barry Levinson and cast.

Not Worth The Wait - 2.5 out of 5 (4/18/2000)
I've been waiting for "Diner" to be released on DVD since I bought my player 2 years ago. Unfortunately much like "Caddyshack 20th Anniversary" it wasn't worth the wait. Mono sound? Come on. Many older movies than Diner are in 5.1. What's the deal?
