"Kubrick's Haunting Final Masterpiece. Vivid, Brilliant, Unforgettable." -Richard Schickel, TIME
Stanley Kubrick's daring last film is many things. It is a compelling psychosexual journey. A haunting dreamscape. A riveting tale of suspense. A major milestone in the careers of stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. And "a worthy final chapter to a great director's career" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times).
Cruise plays Dr. William Hartford, who plunges into an erotic foray that threatens his marriage - and may even ensnare him in a lurid murder mystery - after his wife's (Kidman) admission of sexual longings. As the story sweeps from doubt and fear to self-discovery and reconciliation, Kubrick orchestrates it with masterful flourishes. Graceful tracking shots, controlled pacing, rich colors, startling images: bravura traits that make Kubrick a filmmaker for the ages are here to keep everyone's eyes wide open.

An apt title if there ever was one! - 4 out of 5 (3/10/2000)
I'll start this out by saying that I am a huge Stanley Kubrick fan.
I had hoped for so much better from his last film. But after seeing it a second time on DVD, I have to say that the fault wasn't really all his.
I'm sure you all heard the stories about "Eyes Wide Shut." The movie took two years to make. The studio threatened to pull backing several times. The cast threatened to walk if it didn't end soon.
Quite frankly, I doubt all of them. I can't think of an act

A great story if you "get" what it's about - 4.5 out of 5 (5/15/2001)
All my friends and relatives who saw this movie thought it was "stupid." I, on the other hand loved it. I think the difference is that they just saw a series of scenes that seemed to not make any sense or carry any kind of a plot, whereas I felt I "got" what Kubrick was trying to say. To me it was a coherent whole with no useless "fluff." I will attempt to explain what I felt this movie was "about."
Remember back when Jimmy Carter confessed in a Playboy magazine interview that, while he

KUBRICK'S FINAL MASTERPIECE - 4.25 out of 5 (9/19/2000)
Stanley Kubrick's final masterpiece get a very good presentation on this DVD.
Larry Smith's cinematography looks even better than on the theather, where it
looked grainy. Colors have a good saturation and brightness and contrast are
perfect with no speckles. It's also important to note that the film is presented Full frame as a
request of Mr. Kubrick ( both The Shining and Full Metal Jacket never have had
letterbox transfers ). I would prefer a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer, but the 4:3 o

Paitence - 3 out of 5 (8/31/2000)
To watch this movie, you need great paitence, the beginning is slow but it picks up towards the end. The dvd isn't all that great, a theatrical trailer, and interviews with Steven Speilburg,Nicole Kidman, and Tom Cruise. The film and dvd may be an average, but it is still a masterpiace.
