Empire Review Fox and the Hound, The: Gold Collection - 4 out of 5  (9/28/2001) THE FOX AND THE HOUND is Disney's 24th animated masterpiece. This little 1981 tale is very poignant and the plot contrived at times. Unlike most Disney's "good vs. evil" or "happily ever after" stories, this story is more a "true-to-life" account of fox and a hound's upbringing mirroring the tale of Bambi. Promising to best friends forever, yet life and society seems to get in the way and dictate to them a different direction to take. Foxes cannot possibly be friends with a hound dog. There are a few options that children will like, but no really special features. It is a nice transfer from film to dvd and the sound is dolby surround not dolby digital 5.1 like the newer Disney titles.   more >>
