Party like there's no tomorrow because there isn't.
At the stroke of midnight, the world is going to end. With time running out, a crazy group of big-city dwellers is determined to go out with a bang. Terminally shy guy Patrick Wheeler (Don McKellar) lets a beautiful stranger (Sandra Oh) use his phone and quickly makes a love connection. Craig, his over-sexed best friend, auditions half the girls in town for the ultimate one night stand -- and winds up with his former French teacher. And while a droning gas company representative calls every last customer to sincerely thank them for their patronage, everyone else goes wild in the streets. It's the party to end all others when one man's romantic rebirth collides with the last night on earth.

powerful - 3.5 out of 5 (8/23/2004)
A powerful movie about people grasping at life as the clock ticks down. It sounds like more of a douwner than it is. This movie has a lot of suprising laughs and touching moments. This movie really stuck with me. I highly recoment it if you are tired of the same tired formula.

One of the finest end of the world films - 2.5 out of 5 (11/21/2000)
Don McKellar's Last Night stands along side Wim Wenders' film Until the End of the World as one of the best films about the end of the world. Whereas Wender's film was epic and transnational, Last Night is much smaller in scope, focusing on a few characters in Canada, each of whom are hoping for a pleasant ending to their lives. It focuses most on McKellar's character, a young man for whom the end of the world seems to be an extension of a prior tragedy (which I won't reveal here). His hope to l

I drove all the to Houston to see this film, back in December of 1999. The main reason, was I'm a big fan of actress Sandra Oh. Overall this is an interesting little dark comedy, that I liked a lot.
Unfortunately, the DVD is a major disappointment. I knew it would be lacking in supplements, seeing it had such a limited theatrical run, but it's not even in wide-screen! To add insult to injury, the only extra on the disc is the theatrical trailer...that's letterboxed!
It's highly unlikely th
