Alfred Hitchcock engulfs you inia whirlpool of terror anditension!
Considered by many to be director Alfred Hitchcock's greatest achievement comes this fully restored and remastered version of the haunting film classic. This special release also contains a restoration trailer and revealing documentary footage.
Set in San Francisco, James Stewart portrays an acrophobic detective hired to trail a friend's suicidal wife. After he successfully rescues her from a leap into the bay, he finds himself becoming obsessed with the beautifully troubled woman.
One of cinema's most chillingly romantic endeavors:it's a fascinating myriad of haunting camera angles shot among some of San Francisco's renowned landmarks. This film is a must for collectors; Leonard Maltin gives Virtigo four stars and hails it as "A genuinely great motion picture that demands multiple viewings."

Careful--It is not anamorphic - 4.25 out of 5 (7/22/2004)
Beautiful transfer and restoration of a truly classic film. However, for those of us with widescreen TVs it is a true disappointment that after so many years out on dvd that Universal has not seen fit to issue it for widescreen TVs. If you have a 4x3, it is OK, but I would not invest if you are even thinking about upgrading your TV.

Vertigo - A+ - 4.75 out of 5 (6/10/2002)
One of the best restorations in film history, and an amazing accomplishment in specific comparison to the original negative. As evidenced on the disc's special restoration featurette. Not to mention a great movie. The weird psychological effect of thinking you know that both versions of the Kim Novak character are in fact the same person -- yet not - really - knowing, is stimulating to say the least.

A Masterpiece - 5 out of 5 (12/28/2001)
A brilliant film on many levels--direction, cinematography, acting, plot, suspense. This is a fascinating, disturbing film starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak. All current Hollywood filmakers should watch this film to learn from a true master on what makes a film work. This is one of those films that no matter how many times you view it, you discover something new each time because it's so well layered.
