Ovidie, Director and Porn Star Biography

Early Life

Ovidie was extremly political-minded as young person. At 15 she decided to create a political group, which was involved with feminist activist movements. When she was 16 she rented her first porn film from a store in Paris. After watching this film, she decided she wanted to write about the exploitation of women due to the graphic nature of what she saw, yet, once she started to see more porn films she realized that her view of porn was not fully informed. Due to the usual speech she often heard within her circles of feminist friends she was used to an anti-porn sentiment. She began to research the "pro-sex feminist movement" and realized that she had a similar mind-set to the new information she was reciving about American pro-feminist pornography being made in the 1980s. It is at this point in her life that she knows she wants to defend sexual freedom and fight for sexual graphic representation. Ovidie is 17 years old, and she already knows that she wants to be a porn star.

The Young Starlet

At 18 years old, and married to a young professor, Ovidie began as an actress in porn. After a few movies, French journalists became interested in what they called an "intellectual pornographer" or a "UFO in porn business". She was invited on to TV Talk-Shows and became very famous in France. She posed for Penthouse and Hot Videos, was on the covers of several magazines, and became an instant French sex icon.

Director

After working for only one year as an actress, she directed her first movie for Marc Dorcel's company. Orgie En Noir recieved the erotic award Hot D'Or for best script. With this accomplishement she became the youngest porn director of international cinema history. At 22 years old, Ovidie directed her second movie, Lilith, which is considered to be "the R-rated movie of the decade" by French erotic journalists. Lilith was reviewed in mainstream cinema magazines, and has been shown in the modern art museum Palais de Tokyo in Paris.This same year she won the Best Director award at the Brussles Film Festival.

Writer, Activist and Mainstream Media

In 2002 she published Porno Manifesto, which she wrote in order to dispell some of the dangerous myths about pornography. Since this time she has writen ten other books whose subjects focus on everything from philosophy, urban culture and female sexuality. Her book Metal Urbain: a good hippie is a dead one has a preface writen by Dead Kennedy's lead singer Jello Biafra. She has lectured at several universities and conferences as an expert on feminism, activism, and the body in art.

Ovidie appears in mainstream movies, Mortel Transfer, directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, and in Le Pornographe directed by Bertrand Bonello (awarded in Cannes for La Semaine Internationale de La Critique). She has appeared on the covers of mainstream magazines Le Film Français and Synopsis.

For her fight for pornography, condom regulations, and her work in mainstream media, she received the Erotic Hall of Fame Hot d'Or d'Honneur in Cannes, with Larry Flint and Sharon Mitchell. In 2003, she was on the cover of the British Times Magazine. She also made an appearence in Italy in the famous TV show "Maurizio Constanzo Show".The same year she directed a sexology porn movie for couples Sexuality, Mode d'emploi in three volumes.

Producer and Shop Owner

Ovidie is now the producer of Raziel Media company. She wrote a manifesto about sex work, and still directs porn movies, like the modern, pin-up inspired Riot Girls, and she directs documentaries and several band's music videos. She's creating the first female erotic shop in France.
