Rufe Sims is almost killed in an explosion while prospecting for gold in his unproductive mine. He is pulled form the debris by his neighbor Wes Channing. The badly injured prospector begs his rescuer to help him put on a show of wealth for his daughter Mary, who is arriving from the Easy. Sims has falsely convinced her that he has struck it rich. What Rufe doesn't realize is that he is sitting on one of the richest gold veins in the West. A crooked assayer has been hiding the real gold content in his reports, so that he can steal Sims' mine for a song!
